I Just Renamed My Paid Newsletter Because I Realised I'd Been Getting It Completely Wrong
Why I'm done pretending I'm only about the frameworks
Welcome to The Dressing Room
I’m just back from holiday, and if there’s one thing twenty years in elite sport taught me, it’s that rest and recovery aren’t optional extras, they’re where the real thinking happens. Every elite athlete I ever watched knew that the work doesn’t stop when you stop moving. Turns out neither do I.
Because somewhere between doing absolutely nothing and having far too much time to think, I had something of an epiphany…I can just be (and should just be) unapologetically me.
So, stick with me here…
Have I worked in elite sport for the last twenty years? Yes, I have.
Have I seen things I’d rather forget? Yep! Definitely (Maybe I’ll write about those too sometime).
Have I experienced the glamour and the excitement of working in pro sport? Yes to that too.
But all of that is mine! I lived it. Loved it. Hated it. Got exhausted by it. That’s not changing.
And, every lesson from the touchline is exactly that, a lesson…from sport, that I want to share with you, that has shaped my life, my business, my story, my parenting, my direction, my confidence…
So, away on holiday, I had a proper think and a good talk with myself. I don’t believe in throwing good money after bad, nor do I think that I should keep ploughing on with something just because I started it.
I’m a firm believer in the pivot, so I’m pivoting.
Today I’m hyped up about it. Tomorrow I might be more serious. But it’s me, and this is it.
For the last few weeks my paid section has been called Training Week, and the idea was simple enough, that every Monday you would get one lesson from elite sport, with an applicable framework or an exercise for your own week that would help you with confidence, performance, self-belief and mental fitness.
I still believe in every bit of that, frameworks WORK, preparation WORKS, structure WORKS, but is that enough to ask you to subscribe to me or pay for subscription. Is it enough?
In my time in pro sport, nobody sat me down and taught me a model for any of that. I just watched people live it and sometimes watched them fail to. I can teach you, tell you and share with you all of that information and some of it will surprise you, some of it might shock you, but hopefully, most of it will help you.
That’s what this space is now. Less like another course (I do have a programme I’d love to see you at), but more like pulling up a chair after everyone else has gone home, listening to the conversations that never made the final whistle. Some weeks a story I’ve never told anyone. Some weeks an idea I can’t stop turning over. Some weeks a proper framework.
Some weeks none of that, just me still working out the lesson in front of you.
Training Week did its job and now it’s time to move on…
Welcome to The Dressing Room. I’m really glad you’re here.
Your turn now, want to take a pass at this one?
A quick practical note: this one's free for everyone.
From next week, The Dressing Room lands here weekly for paying subscribers.
